A benefit of having one of the greatest point guards of all time is that he can play the role of teacher, too.

That’s what Jason has been doing with Dallas backup point guard J.J Barea, who started on Friday night. As No. 2 explained to the Star-Telegram:

“We try to start the game off running, so when he comes in I talk to him about trying to do the same thing. Just observe what’s there, what we can get on offense and just be solid. We talk about turnovers, keeping the high-risk pass to a minimum and to make the simple play.”

BACK AT THE HELM
Jason will start the Mavericks’ fourth preseason game — this time against Indiana — on Wednesday night. As one might expect, Dallas is looking for a lot of production this year out of its nine-time All-Star.

“Kidd, of course, will be at the controls for the majority of games. He remains extremely durable, having played 80 games in each of the past three seasons. He averaged about 36 minutes a game last season between New Jersey and Dallas.”

Protrade.com echoed the sentiment with a bit more panache.

“The Mavs live and die with Jason Kidd right now.”
