The Jason Kidd Foundation raises money to support Northern Light School in Oakland, California. The school, which opened in 1989, provides a high-quality learning environment to help students fulfill their dreams.

Northern Light graduates have gone on to become: doctors, lawyers, teachers, musicians, engineers, astronauts, Navy Seals, artists, coaches and entrepreneurs.

Here’s a story from one such student:

Thaddeus Anderson, graduated from Sisters High School in 2008, and spent his four outstanding years of high school in small-town Sisters, Oregon.

Thaddeus came to Northern Light School in second grade after he was found walking the streets of Las Vegas. His mother, who was strung out on drugs, abandoned Thaddeus. When his grandparents enrolled him in Northern Light School, I looked at this little toe-headed boy and said, "Thaddeus, you have to have a dream here at Northern Light School. What do you want to be when you grow up?" He looked me square in the eyes and replied, "I want to be a Navy SEAL!"

Thaddeus, determined to become a Navy Seal since his enrollment at Northern Light School, began his training with the United States Navy on July 7, 2008, in Chicago at the United States Naval Academy, Great Lakes. Thaddeus graduated from boot camp in September 2008 and entered the Navy SEALS Special Forces training program as a Navy Medic.

Currently, Thaddeus is stationed in Okinawa, Japan, where he has worked in the Okinawa Naval Base Hospital since October 2008. While completing his training in Okinawa, Thaddeus received the highest honor of a Navy Corpsman, the Force MasterChief Coin, as well as the Bluejacket SOQ Award. Currently awaiting orders for deployment, Thaddeus is expected to next be stationed in Corpus Christi, Texas, to continue his training.

We are so very proud of our Navy SEAL, Thaddeus Anderson, who epitomizes "Impossible is Nothing!"
