Today marks the second anniversary of Jason Kidd’s return to Dallas. J-Kidd was traded to the Mavericks from the New Jersey Nets back in 2008.
Eddie Sefko and David Moore of the Dallas Morning News recently combined to recount the trade that brought No. 2 back to Dallas.
J-Kidd took a moment to reflect on his return to the Mavericks in 2008. Though he doesn’t remember much, one thing in particular stood out in his mind.
"For me, we lost a lot of games by one point or two points or less than five points," Kidd said. "So I think maybe people were actually a little worried that it wasn’t the right thing to do. That’s all I can remember, that we weren’t winning the close games."
That may have been the case upon his arrival, but J-Kidd and the Mavs have recently made history with close games. On Jan. 26, the Mavs edged the Milwaukee Bucks 108-107, their tenth consecutive win in a one-point game. They are now tied for first place with the St. Louis Hawks for most consecutive one-point wins in the NBA.
The Morning News also wrote about the Mavs most recent trade which brought new talents Caron Butler, Brendan Haywood and DeShawn Stevenson to Big D and how No. 2 is working hard to make sure the trade will pay off, much like the one that brought him to Dallas.
"It’s a fun challenge," Kidd said. "We got some great guys who know how to play. So it’s not as hard as if it was a rookie or a second-year player. So keep things simple and go to their strengths. And help them if they have any questions."
J-Kidd thinks the sky is the limit for this talented group and the new-look Mavericks will be pushing well into the playoffs.
"I’m looking at it like there’s 30 games left. I think we have a special opportunity here."
