As the Milwaukee Bucks look to Own the Future, they’ll do so with Jason Kidd at the helm.
On Tuesday, the Bucks announced the three-year contract extension that will keep Jason as the head coach in Milwaukee through the 2019-20 season.
“I’m just very honored to have this opportunity to help build a championship team here in Milwaukee,” Jason said. “I’m very happy in my position here, and that’s coaching and learning how to be a coach. I’m trying to get better each day, learn something new each day and help my players get better. Winning will take care of itself. I’m very blessed and honored to have the opportunity to be here.”
J-Kidd just wrapped up his second year as the Bucks’ head coach. The young, new-look Milwaukee team struggled at times last year while going 33-49, but Jason has committed to the young core of players and is focused on helping them improve—and the Bucks’ brass believes continuity at the head coaching spot will go a long way toward reaching their goals.
Co-owner Wes Edens and general manager John Hammond both spoke in the team release on how Jason’s re-signing will provide a stable foundation for the team for years to come.
“Our goal remains to be a consistent contender for NBA Championships and we believe that Jason Kidd is the right man for the job,” Edens said. “In terms of preparing, developing and relating to today’s players, we think there is no better fit to lead our young and talented roster. We are excited that Jason will continue to call Milwaukee his home.”
“I truly believe that continuity is extremely important in our business, so I’m very happy for Jason and the Bucks organization to continue the partnership we have,” Hammond said. “Jason and his staff work tirelessly to help our players grow and develop and I look forward to working with them to build our roster into a consistent contender.”
Jason thanked the Milwaukee owners, Edens and Marc Lasry, for their continued faith in him. “I greatly appreciate the confidence that our owners have placed in me by signing me to this extension,” Coach Kidd said. “We have a hard-working group of coaches that want to teach our young players and help them reach their full potential. We still have work to do but we’re committed to the goal of building a team that consistently competes for titles.” Perhaps most importantly, Jason is happy to have some continuity in his family’s life as well. Between his 19 years as a player and now three as a coach, Jason has made seven moves between teams. So professionally and personally, J-Kidd is thrilled to be at a comfortable place in Milwaukee. “I’m excited that my family and I will continue to make our home in Milwaukee,” Kidd continued. “We appreciate the terrific support we’ve received and look forward to many great years moving forward.” RELATED LINKS
