IN HIS OWN WORDS
"I’ve just enjoyed passing the ball. It’s made the game fun and easy for me. To have that many and just think about how far I am from Stockton, it just let’s me know that Stockton’s a little bit better." – A typically humble J-Kidd on his specialty: the pass.
THEY SAID IT
Jason’s teammates, peers and those who observe his craft have had nothing but fine things to say about Jason’s longevity and consistency:
Mavericks forward Caron Butler:
"(We’re) playing with the greatest point guard, one of the best ever."Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki:
"We’re lucky to play with a point guard like that."Mavericks center Tyson Chandler:
"J-Kidd, he surprises me all the time. He keeps digging into that tank and pulling out tricks. One night he’s making every single pass. (In Utah), he’s making every single three. (Against Sacramento), he’s making every single defensive play. The guy’s amazing."Celtics forward Kevin Garnett:
"He’s put teams on his back. He’s carried the load and the responsibility for a long time. He’s no shag of a player, nothing like that. He’s a respected player. I think everybody in our organization and our locker room respects this dude."Mavericks forward Shawn Marion:
"Jason Kidd is a master of the game, he’s the definition of a point guard. People should really look at how he’s an all-around point guard. He plays both ends of the floor, he can post up, he can shoot the three, he can come off pick-and-rolls, and he’s one of the best transition point guards in the league – still, right now."Philadelphia 76ers Head Coach Doug Collins:
"I compare Jason Kidd a little bit to Brett Favre, and I mean that in a very positive way. He’s a gunslinger. He will take risks with the ball that a lot of guys won’t take. When I broadcasted games I used to always say that he played like he had a rearview mirror – he not only saw what was in front of him but what was behind him. He will go somewhere knowing where a guy is coming, not where he already is. And he has such great instincts."Three-point king Ray Allen after a J-Kidd three ball beat Allen’s Celtics
"He’s proven over his career that he can knock the 3-ball down," Allen said. "For most of his career, he hasn’t been given the credit for being able to shoot because he’s been able to do so many other things well. He’s always had the stigma that he was flashy, but he was very effective."Eddie Sefko, Dallas Morning News:
"Smart and quicker than anybody should be when they are 37. A good leader and teacher for players barely half his age. Yes, I’m a fan. His offense is down to passing and spotting up for threes. But everything he does is still a positive for this organization."
