Well known for his triple-double prowess, Jason Kidd has become a double-double machine for the Dallas Mavericks this season.
And as has been the case in recent weeks, Jason also reserved one of his best performances for the biggest of games.
J-Kidd tied his season-high with 17 assists and scored 13 points to grab yet another double-double in last night’s 99-90 win over the Boston Celtics. Along with his 17-13 split, No. 2 also racked up four rebounds and a steal.
After starting the season without a double-double in Dallas’ first 10 games, the veteran has hit his stride, recording 13 duplicates in his last 31 games, an average of nearly one every other game.
After the great win, Jason tried to accentuate the positive when speaking with the Star-Telegram about Sunday’s loss in Toronto, a blip on the collective radar:
"Did we even go to Toronto?" J-Kidd deadpanned. "If you’re a pitcher, and you give up a home run, you got to come back with your fastball. That’s what we tried to do."
No. 2 definitely came out with his version of a fastball last night. He sunk three triples, his last one putting the Mavs up by 11 with eight minutes left in the game. It was all part of a superb offensive showcase from Dallas and J-Kidd told the Dallas Morning News about the Mavericks’ outstanding offense:
"It was the running Mavs tonight," Kidd said. "That’s how we have to play offensively, not so much grinding down and relying on Dirk or Jet
[Terry] to make a jump shot."He went on to tell ESPN that he felt comfortable handling the ball so much in last night’s game.
"Dirk putting the ball in the basket helps," Kidd said. "But just running the pick and roll, running the offense, knowing who is going to be there and guys putting the ball in the basket are big things. I had the ball a lot today and I felt comfortable in making the right decision."
Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle called J-Kidd’s performance spectacular.
"The defense really keyed everything," said coach Rick Carlisle. "We had good transitions and good looks. Dirk [Nowitzki] got loose, [Shawn] Marion got to the rim, [Jason] Kidd was spectacular."
