When Jason Kidd isn’t helping the Mavericks make their way to the top of the Western Conference, he unwinds on the golf course.
In an interview with Avid Golfer Magazine, J-Kidd dished the details of his other athletic endeavors. No. 2 said his love for multiple sports started when he was a kid:
"My parents were great with me when it came to sports. They drove me to soccer every morning and then to basketball every afternoon."
He joined the golf team in high school with his best friend, because the sport seemed fun and relatively easy to pick up:
"Once I got to high school, one of my best friends was on the golf team. I figured, ‘This’ll be the easiest sport of all for me. The ball doesn’t even move!’"
Jason is a member at the Dallas National Golf Club and sneaks a round in whenever his schedule allows. He plays with Mavs assistant coaches Popeye Jones and Darrell Armstrong and teammate Jason Terry.
J-Kidd’s love for golf embraces more than just the sport. He also enjoys the atmosphere.
"A big part of it is I just like being outdoors. Actually, at Dallas National, you’re pretty close to downtown Dallas. The game itself is humbling, just like it was in high school. But there’s always one good thing: When you are outside and out on that course, it’s so beautiful … you really feel like you are in another world."

BECOMING THE BEST OF THE WEST
J-Kidd and the Mavs improved their record to 10-3 with 104-102 win over the Sacramento Kings Friday night.
No. 2 helped his team out with 15 points, all from beyond the arc. After missing his first seven 3-pointers of the season, he has shot 52% from the 3-point line. He also dished out 11 assists, grabbed 4 rebounds and picked up 3 steals in the win.
Along with improving his 3-point shot, J-Kidd has been helping teammate Roddy Beaubois develop as an NBA player.
No. 2 told the Dallas Morning News he sees potential in his rookie teammate:
"He listens and he applies it. When I tell him to go, he goes. The big thing is for him to understand when to go, when to change gears. That’s just going to come with time, with trial and error, getting minutes under his belt."
The Mavericks now sit one game behind the Phoenix Suns for first place in the Western Conference and are currently on a 5-game win streak.
