It’s amazing what a difference an offseason can make.
Jason and his Dallas teammates are reaching a comfort level rarely seen last season. They’re becoming more accustomed to his no-look passes and court vision, sensing what’s going to happen before it does.
That was never more evident than on Tuesday, when No. 2 racked up a whopping 11 assists in a mere 24 minutes of play during a 109-105 loss to Chicago.
Afterward, Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle noted just how auspicious a night it was for his all-star point guard. As reported by the Dallas Morning News:
"Jason is one or two frames ahead of everyone else. If everyone is watching a movie, he knows when the guy is going to kiss the girl before everybody else does. It’s that way on the court."
Jason is also asserting himself near the rim, which is creating opportunities for everyone.
"That’s an option for this team. To play out of the post, I’m comfortable down there. I like it down there, actually. And they can all play off me."
