Tuesday marked a historic day for Jason: the start of his first training camp since rejoining the Mavericks last season.

Having only played 34 games in 2007-08, No. 2 finds himself with a new coach, and an organization focused on letting one of the game’s all-time point guards do what he does best. As Mavs president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson told the Star Telegram:

“Jason is a guy that, for him to really flourish, he needs to be able to have that freedom and express himself the way he wants to on the court.”

IN J-KIDD’S HANDS
With new coach Rick Carlisle running the Mavericks this season, Dallas will be looking to implement a more motion-oriented offense that lets Jason handle the ball more and use his exceptional court vision. As Carlisle explained to the Dallas Morning News:

“Offensively, when Jason Kidd gets the ball in his hands, you’re a fool if you’re not running hard right now because he’s going to see you and he’s going to put it to you in rhythm on stride, and you’re going to be in position to attack the basket.”
